Poetry Tribute for Ishmael Reed at SF Jazz Center

Tokyo Flower Children present an important poetry event at the San Francisco Jazz Center on Saturday, June 28th, where poet laureate Ishmael Reed will be honored and celebrated by peers and readers alike. This tribute includes readings by poets and writers: Tennessee Reed, Genny Lim, Yuri Kageyama, along with her Tokyo-based band Yuricane (including Hirokazu Suyama, Hiroshi Tokieda and Yuuichiro Ishii). But the spotlight of the evening will capture a special reading by the iconic wordsmith himself, Ishmael Reed.  “Ishmael Reed was the first person to publish my poem, and that meant so much to a young poet who felt so alone but had so much to say,” offers Yuri Kageyama, Tokyo-based poet and musician. Yuri Kageyama is the one responsible for organizing this important tribute for Ishmael Reed. This event is free and open to the public. Come out and don’t miss this evening of celebration and honor! For more information regarding the event, click here
