Staged Readings from Ishmael Reed’s plays will be performed at Nahl Hall Saturday, April 28 at 2:30 pm on the Oakland campus of California College of the Arts (CCA), 5212 Broadway, at the intersection of Broadway and College Avenue. Another performance will take place at Timken Hall, Sunday April 29 at 2:30 pm on the San Francisco campus of California College of the Arts (CCA) at 1111 Eighth Street, San Francisco, between Hooper & Irwin. Both matinees are Free and open to the public, no ticket required.

Ishmael Reed's plays follow the ancient tradition of using theater as a forum in which the official versions of our history can be critiqued. His plays have been praised by leading American critics include the late Clive Barnes of The New York Post. Backstage, the leading trade magazine of the New York theater calls Reed a "genius" and a "modern day Moliere." Ishmael Reed is a recipient of the OTTO Award for Political Theater.

The scenes, excerpted from "Savage Wilds," Body Parts," Hubba City," "The C Above C Above High C," and "The Preacher and the Rapper" will be directed by Robert Wilson collaborator, Carla Blank. Ms. Blank is also the director and dramaturge of Wajahat Ali’s “The Domestic Crusaders,” which was performed in 2010 at the Kennedy Center. Actors participating in “A Sampler of The Theater of Ishmael Reed” are Boadiba, Seth Corr, Sherry Davis, Michael Lange, Genny Lim, and Alex Maynard, with Tennessee Reed as narrator.
